My law firm is in the process of dissolving. My firm is not going to purchase a malpractice insurance tail or extended reporting insurance coverage. Is that in violation of the Rules of Professional Conduct?

The question raises an interesting point, but there is no requirement in Pennsylvania for a law firm or lawyers to have legal malpractice insurance. With all of the over-regulation of the legal profession going on recently, this is the one area where perhaps there is need for regulation i.e., mandatory legal malpractice insurance. As most lawyers know, some other professions have requirements—such as medical doctors and psychologists—which mandate professional liability insurance.
