Although young attorneys are far removed from the immaturity of infancy, finding the right practice area is much like learning to walk in some instances. We can all almost instantly, and vividly, bring to mind imagery of a baby taking his or her first steps when learning to walk. There's one hobble after the other before the small feet land on the ground, followed by an expression of excitement and achievement. This excitement previews the zeal toward the newness of walking and an unprecedented adventure ahead, embracing the stumbles he or she may take along the journey. As for young attorneys switching practice areas for the first—or maybe second, or third—time, we often balance our comfort levels with the desire for a new adventure, in order to determine the challenges or treasures resulting from the switch.
