What is the most important thing for an attorney, or practice to be effective in the ESG space?

Due to overlapping and often conflicting ESG-related regulations across key global jurisdictions, simply knowing the law is not enough. By taking a holistic approach to assessing the “E”, “S”, and “G” of a client’s strategy, lawyers are able to act as strategic advisors and provide practical guidance on how to integrate corporate values, mitigate risk, and when necessary, defend those actions. Education is key. In having a strong grasp of the global ESG landscape, lawyers are better prepared to “look around the corner” at the next issue that may impact clients’ business operations.
