H. Jeffrey Brahin of Brahin Law Offices presented a seminar titled "Commercial Evictions and How to Avoid Them" for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute on June 20.

This seminar was a comprehensive overview of commercial evictions, including self-help, District Justice and Municipal Court actions, Common Pleas lawsuits and Confessions of Judgment. The seminar covered procedure and substantive law considerations. Confessions of Judgment were discussed in detail, including the drafting and negotiating of the cognovit clause, entering, and executing the judgment, petitions to strike and open the judgment, and appeals. Practical strategies were reviewed regarding drafting, negotiations, notices, discovery, stays of execution, etc.

Brahin focuses his practice on complex commercial and real estate litigation, as well as real estate and corporate transactional work. Brahin represents a variety of companies and individuals in litigation matters including landlord-tenant litigation, litigation regarding options, adverse possession, partition, foreclosures, mechanics liens, actions to quiet title, condominium litigation, rights of first refusal and the Commercial Real Estate Broker Lien Act.
