The former head prosecutor in the U.S. Middle District of Pennsylvania violated multiple Department of Justice policies when he issued a series of public statements in 2020 about an ongoing election fraud investigation, according to a report from the DOJ.

The department’s Office of the Inspector General determined in its 82-page report that former U.S. Attorney David Freed made statements that misled the public about the DOJ’s September 2020 criminal investigation into the mishandling of several mail-in ballots in Luzerne County.
