A federal judge in Pennsylvania cleared the way for a South Asian woman's discrimination retaliation claims to proceed against the University of Pennsylvania, finding that the student sufficiently brought allegations that she was wrongly suspended after filing a bias complaint over cheating allegations.

In an Aug. 22 opinion, U.S. District Judge Cynthia M. Rufe for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania agreed to dismiss plaintiff Harini Reddy's breach-of-contract claim as it pertained to allegations of race or sex discrimination, but allowed her to proceed to discovery on her Title VI retaliation claims. In the case, captioned Reddy v. University of Pennsylvania, the student is represented by Summers, McDonnell, Hudock, Guthrie & Rauch and Nesenoff & Miltenberg. Attorneys with Saul Ewing are representing the university.
