A federal judge in Pennsylvania denied Lyft’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by a Lyft driver who claimed he was entitled to uninsured motorist coverage following a car accident, with the court concluding he successfully established that Lyft agreed to cover him in the event he was injured.

In a Sept. 12 opinion, U.S. District Judge Gerald J. Pappert of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania determined a terms of service agreement and the driver guidebook promise was a binding contract between Lyft and one of its drivers, Khalid Ahtasham. The guidebook promised Lyft drivers that “‘we’ve got you with our $1 million insurance policy,’” and “‘there are four coverages included in our insurance policy,’” including underinsured/uninsured (UM/UIM) motorist coverage.
