A York County Court of Common Pleas judge was immediately suspended from the bench without pay Wednesday after he was federally indicted for more than 30 criminal charges for an alleged scheme to collect COVID-19 unemployment benefits and attempts to mislead investigators.

In an order Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Judicial Conduct Board suspended York County Court of Common Pleas Judge Steven Stambaugh, 61. This decision follows a 31-count indictment Tuesday, accusing Stambaugh of 26 counts of wire fraud, two counts of mail fraud, two counts of tampering with a witness, and one count of obstruction of justice.
