One crucial responsibility that the U.S. Constitution assigns senators is provision of comprehensive advice and consent regarding accomplished judicial candidates selected by the president to serve, particularly in their home states. Democratic Sen. Bob Casey, who is pursuing his fourth term representing Pennsylvania, has successfully collaborated with home state colleagues Republican Sen. Pat Toomey in 2021-2022 and Democrat Sen. John Fetterman in 2023-2024, to astutely discharge this critical responsibility. Casey has employed sound judgment, profound skill, exceptional intelligence, diligence, and keen appreciation for the different roles that the Constitution accords the chief executive and senators in the confirmation and nomination processes, the core rules and conventions that govern selection, and his constituents' interests. Casey's nearly two decades of experience in the Senate filling vacancies has enabled him to assume a leadership role in this work.
The endeavors of Casey, Toomey and Fetterman, in conjunction with the administration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, have yielded well qualified, mainstream nominees, who increase experiential, ideological, ethnic, gender and sexual orientation diversity. Because Casey is seeking reelection, the public should know how effectively he discharges this important responsibility. The highly efficacious manner in which the Pennsylvania nomination and confirmation systems have operated is primarily attributable to Casey's leadership role and demonstrates that he should earn reelection.
