Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is launching a new office in Chicago, snagging a group of 17 IP attorneys from Locke Lord who departed in wake of conflicts generated by the firm’s newly minted merger with Troutman Pepper Hamilton & Sanders.

The Pittsburgh-founded firm's new location will be led by shareholder Michael Gaertner, formerly a member of Locke Lord’s executive committee and co-chair of its business litigation and arbitration practice group, alongside eight other shareholders. Two attorneys from the group will be making their home in the firm’s New York location, bringing Buchanan’s total IP section attorney head count to approximately 75 lawyers.
