What You Need to Know
- Ballard Spahr and Lane Powell officially merged at the start of the new year, expanding Ballard's presence out into the Pacific Northwest.
- Both firms said they put out a strong performance in 2024 while also getting a head start on integration efforts, helping to propel the success of the merger.
- Now that they have officially merged, Ballard Spahr is looking to adopt the best practices of Lane Powell to strengthen the combined firm.
Ballard Spahr has officially entered the Pacific Northwest legal market via its merger with midsize firm Lane Powell, with both entities having already taken steps to begin integration before the merger officially went into effect on Jan. 1.
The two firms first announced they were merging back in September, just one among many combinations across the Am Law 200 announced in 2024; it is also Ballard’s first merger under the leadership of chairman Peter Michaud, who himself arrived at the firm via a 2018 merger with Lindquist & Vennum in Minneapolis and took up his position last year from long-time chairman Mark Stewart.
