Joseph Macchione and Ajay Raju knew each other professionally from their brief overlap working in Morgan Lewis & Bockius’ real estate department in 2000, but it took eight years and a conversation over drinks to turn their friendship into legal work that resulted in a billion-dollar deal.
It wasn’t until their wives met and became close friends that the two spent time together socially.
