July has been a busy month for legal bloggers, with the ongoing presidential campaign, a new surveillance law passed by Congress and major Supreme Court decisions providing almost nonstop commentary fodder. Here are a handful of recent topics.
Conservative legal academics at the “Volokh Conspiracy” blog are vigorously debating whether District of Columbia v. Heller means that there is also a constitutional right to self defense. Justice Antonin Scalia’s decision struck down the district’s ban on hand guns as well as a requirement that guns kept in the home be disassembled or protected by a trigger lock.
