It may be a common belief that members of one race or gender would not discriminate against members of the same group. A decision from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, however, reinforces that the law is not so clear-cut.

In Pollock v. Philadelphia , Robbie Pollock, an African-American male, claimed he was racially harassed by his supervisor, also an African-American male. Specifically, Pollock was a custodial employee assigned to clean a police unit located in North Philadelphia. His employment began in 1999 and was unremarkable for about five years, until Administrative Sgt. Tyrone Cook became his direct supervisor.
