“We have 30 days to file our papers,” Bob said to Anne, his client, an hour after learning that the three arbitrators had found in favor of John and against Anne, after a hotly contested three-day arbitration hearing. As Bob explained, Anne had excellent grounds to vacate the award. The arbitrators did not allow Anne’s expert witness to testify. To make matters worse, Anne’s direct examination was inexplicably stopped after she had testified for only two hours. Bob understood that it was difficult to upend an arbitration award. But if he could not vacate this award, then nothing deserved vacatur.
