For a variety of business and legal reasons, a significant number of today’s employers, including law firms, engage in diversity business strategies and objectives designed to enhance the participation of a variety of individuals. Because talent is found in all types of people — irrespective of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, etc. — prudent employers understand that it is critical to create workplace environments where all employees fully participate in creating and implementing business strategies.
These employers further understand that creating different products and services and communicating about them in a way that appeals to a broader, diverse community are critical for enhancing marketplace positioning. Consequently, marketplace incentives for diversity efforts (e.g. actions taken to attract and retain talent, to expand vendor opportunities and to gain feedback about a company’s products and services from affinity groups) are clearly evident.
