Can a debtor engage in claims trading? That was the question presented to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Appeal of Garlin Corp. (In re Barry B. Kreisler and Marsha D. Erenberg) .

Kreisler and Erenberg, the debtors, each had an ownership interest in two properties in Chicago; both properties were fully encumbered by a number of mortgages. One of the mortgagees, Community Bank, held a $900,0q out to myron00 claim secured by both properties, according to the opinion.
