Some of the biggest changes to Pennsylvania’s criminal justice system in years take effect today.
Defendants can’t be paroled early unless the judge makes the defendant eligible for early parole at the time of sentencing. Judges also must set an alternative minimum sentence for some qualified defendants who are serving minimum sentences of six years or less.
