On Feb. 27, President Obama announced his selection for the next chairman of the Federal Trade Commission: Commissioner Jon Leibowitz. The selection of Leibowitz as the next chairman of the FTC underscores Obama’s claims that his administration will vehemently enforce the antitrust laws, as opposed to the outgoing Bush administration.

Leibowitz, currently the only Democrat on the commission, was sworn in Sept. 3, 2004. During his more than four years as a commissioner at the FTC, Leibowitz built a reputation as a vigorous antitrust enforcer, with a focus on competition in the pharmaceutical industry and online advertising.
