Budget hearings for the city’s three main legal departments created some fireworks Tuesday as the Defender Association of Philadelphia argued against facing a second 5 percent budget cut, and City Council members grilled Deputy Mayor of Public Safety Everett Gillison during District Attorney Lynne Abraham’s testimony against a proposed 22 percent cut to her fiscal year 2010 budget.
Hearings regarding the District Attorney’s Office budget lasted about two-and-a-half hours and contained “spirited debate” between Gillison and Abraham, Gillison and City Council members and Abraham and City Councilman At-Large W. Wilson Goode Jr.
