The state Supreme Court has agreed to decide the constitutionality of sentencing a minor to life in prison with no chance of parole.
The court granted allocatur in Commonwealth v. Batts , a case in which the defendant was 14 years old when he received a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole after being convicted of first-degree murder.
