With the election of a black civil rights attorney and constitutional law professor to the presidency of the United States, the urgency of achieving parity in the legal profession has been heightened for activists on the issue.

Despite President Obama’s election last fall, participants in a pair of diversity events held last week in Philadelphia highlighted how much more work remains to move lawyers from minority backgrounds into the ranks and into the power structures of law firms.
