Last month the annual National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) was released. The survey, prepared by the U.S. Department of Justice, found that every major violent and property crime rate measured by the NCVS in 2007 were at or near the lowest levels recorded since the survey’s inception in 1973.
In fact, the 2007 violent crime rate was 43 percent lower than the 1998 violent crime rate. That is certainly good news. However, there are some ominous aspects to the survey, particularly with regard to domestic violence and sexual assault.
