Last month, the Law Weekly‘s sibling, The Legal Intelligencer, reported that “A demand from judges and clients for skilled appellate attorneys is starting to take hold on Pittsburgh and Philadelphia law firms who in turn are creating with increased frequency specialized appellate practices.”
As I prepare to begin my 15th year as an appellate attorney in private practice, it is an opportune time to discuss what appellate lawyers do and how we might be of use both to lawyers without much experience in handling appeals and to clients whose cases are heading to appeal.
