For all the initiatives pursued by the Philadelphia Bar Association in 2009, the bleak legal market dominated the concerns and energy of the organization.

The keystone of the bar association’s response to the impact of the recession on lawyers was a program started for out-of-work attorneys to help them find work and get back on their feet. The “Lawyers in Transition” initiative included a continuing legal education event in the spring focusing on the little details attorneys might not think of when hanging a shingle, such as malpractice insurance and determining how to charge and collect fees. The CLE was organized by the law practice management division, chaired this year by Daniel J. Siegel of the Law Offices of Daniel J. Siegel and Mary Platt of Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads.
