There were two vacancies on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals when President Obama took office Jan. 20, and those vacancies remain today.
Although Obama nominated two sitting federal district judges to be elevated to the 3rd Circuit — Judge Thomas Vanaskie of the Middle District of Pennsylvania and Judge Joseph Greenaway of the District of New Jersey — they have not yet been confirmed by the Senate.
