The state Supreme Court has suspended the sunset provision contained in a rule that sanctioned juror note-taking in certain criminal trials, effectively extending a period for evaluation of the practice.

Under Criminal Procedural Rule 644, adopted in June 2005, judges are required to allow jurors to take notes in criminal trials that are expected to last more than two days. Judges may also exercise discretion to allow jurors to take notes in shorter trials.
