The Department of Environmental Protection has appealed a recent Commonwealth Court ruling that struck down state-specific mercury emission rules implemented in 2006, Gov. Edward G. Rendell’s office announced Thursday.
John Hanger, the acting secretary of the DEP, called the state’s rule a “well-crafted, cost-effective program designed to protect our citizens from exposure to mercury emitted by coal-fired power plants.”
