Local governments would be permitted to levy taxes on the value of oil, natural gas and coal-bed methane gas operations in Pennsylvania just as they now levy property taxes on homes, and commercial and industrial businesses, under legislation introduced in the state House.
Tax law already allows local governments to levy taxes on the value of coal and other mineral extraction operations. The legislation, House Bill 10, would move oil, natural gas and coal-bed methane under the same category in the law.
