A: Several conflicting duties are implicated by the question. The first duty is obviously confidentiality under the attorney-client relationship. The second duty is that of an officer of the court not to mislead the court.
If the court has requested a hearing to get an explanation as to why the lawyer is withdrawing, the lawyer is still bound by Rule of Professional Conduct 1.6, the confidentiality rule. There are exceptions under Rule 1.6, but none of the exceptions would appear to be applicable under Rule 1.6(c).
