Q: I am of the age where several of my close friends are now becoming judicial officers. How do I address them when I see them in public? Can I still socialize with them?

A: An occupational hazard for lawyers is seeing some of their friends become elected or appointed to judicial positions. There is no reason that a friendship has to end because someone is appointed or elected to the bench. On the other hand, every attorney has to be aware that the judicial officer has to make certain changes in his or her life to protect the office for which they are now serving.
