Two of the more closely watched cases to appear before the state Supreme Court will take center stage this week as the justices meet in Pittsburgh.
The Tuesday/Wednesday session will give the justices a chance to hear arguments in 16 cases, but two — Schmidt v. Boardman and In re Erie Golf Course — seem to stand out as having the biggest following and potentially having the most impact. In those cases, attorneys will argue whether concepts of emotional distress may be applied to strict products liability verdicts and whether municipalities may sell donated land that has been losing money.
