Much has been written lately on the subject of conversion of retirement plan accounts and individual retirement accounts, or IRAs, to Roth IRAs. A comprehensive article on the subject appeared in a recent issue of the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council newsletter, and helpful studies have been produced by Bernstein Investments and Goldman Sachs, among others.

A great deal of attention has been paid to this planning technique because, in the right circumstances, it can create a tax-free stream of income that can extend over many years, and the technique can involve very large amounts of money.
