The sale of beer in supermarkets with cafes was before the state Supreme Court Wednesday, and one of the justices asked whether the move — approved by the Liquor Control Board — might eventually put beer distributors out of business and cost Pennsylvania jobs.

In their consideration of Malt Beverages Distributors Association v. Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board , the justices will first need to determine the standard of review: if it’s a question of law to be determined de novo by the high court, or whether they must show deference to the LCB and only overturn the board’s decision if there was an of abuse of discretion.
