On June 29, the Homeless Advocacy Project will present a pro bono CLE training program, “Representing Clients in SSI Cases,” from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the offices of Blank Rome, 130 N. 18th St., 11th floor, Philadelphia. The program will be presented by HAP senior staff attorney Patricia Malley and is open to current and prospective volunteers. On July 7, a Chancellor’s Forum, “Civil Gideon: Establishing a Right to Counsel for Low Income Persons in Civil Cases Where Basic Human Needs Are at Stake,” will be held at noon in the 11th Floor Conference Center at the Philadelphia Bar Association. This program will feature a special presentation by Professor Russell Engler, director of clinical programs at New England Law-Boston and a national expert on Civil Gideon. The program will also feature a panel discussion, including Catherine C. Carr, executive director of Community Legal Services, and Joseph A. Sullivan, special counsel and director of pro bono programs at Pepper Hamilton, who are co-chairs of the association’s Civil Gideon Task Force, and will provide an opportunity for questions and answers.
