Earlier this month, members of the Texas-based Operation Save America — previously known as Operation Rescue — demonstrated outside a Bridgeport mosque. The group assailed worshipers with placards and T-shirts reading “Islam is a Lie,” and other provocative statements.

The same day, at the state Capitol in Hartford, the Muslim Coalition of Connecticut and 25 area churches and synagogues sponsored a protest to counter Islamophobia. The term refers to mounting incidents of intolerance, including vandalism of mosques and Internet incitement to anti-Muslim behavior.
