While more than half of Pennsylvania firms listed in The American Lawyer ‘s annual mid-level associates survey moved up in the rankings, only one improved its overall satisfaction score bestowed by their respective third-, fourth- and fifth-year associates.

The numbers show a downward trend in mid-level associate satisfaction that mirrors what the magazine’s survey results showed nationally this month. According the The American Lawyer ‘s report, no longer were associates concerned with the prospects of layoffs, while more than 80 percent were last year. But keeping their jobs wasn’t enough to improve satisfaction this year as extra work, reduced staffing and pay cuts all brought satisfaction levels to their lowest since the magazine began tracking the data in 2004.
