This past March, the Federal Communications Commission released its National Broadband Plan. After many months of study including public hearings and the review of public comments, the FCC developed the broadband plan as directed by Congress under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

Special aspects of the broadband plan and its implementation will no doubt be tied up in administrative reviews and litigation, since there are disparate viewpoints on the FCC’s vision of how broadband generally should evolve nationally. Important to health care providers, one entire chapter of the broadband plan is devoted to the impact of broadband availability to health care.
