Paul Leo McSorley, a Philadelphia attorney for more than 40 years, died Oct. 3 in St. Petersburg, Fla., at the age of 81.

The 13th child of Richard and Marguerite McSorley, Paul McSorley was born in Philadelphia in 1929, and graduated from Saint Joseph’s College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He began his legal career in 1954 as a member of the U.S. Marines Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He later joined his father in the family law firm, McSorley Purcell & McSorley, maintaining a wide-ranging practice in Philadelphia until his retirement in the mid-1990s. He also served for many years in appointed positions for the city of Philadelphia, including commissioner of records and jury commissioner. He was long active in Democratic politics at the city and state levels.
