Fall is a popular time for evaluations and compensation adjustments. While young lawyers are undoubtedly affected by the evaluation process, too often they do not approach the process with the necessary energy and commitment, missing an important opportunity for professional development and career advancement.

These young lawyers, however, are not alone in “sleepwalking” through the evaluation season. Many employers have outdated evaluation methods that fail to account for the expectations held by a new generation of attorneys and that, unknowingly, create dissatisfaction and turnover.
