A divided state Superior Court panel has ruled that a Philadelphia-area corporation that runs a medical school cannot receive a trust worth at least $7 million that was left to a Philadelphia hospital bought by a for-profit corporation.
George W. Elkins left a trust of $500,000 on behalf of Hahnemann Hospital and a trust of $500,000 on behalf of Abington Memorial Hospital when he died in 1919, according to the unpublished memorandum opinion in In re Estate of George W. Elkins .
