Republican and Democratic supporters of public pension reform legislation overcame criticisms that the legislation will not go far enough to hold back staggering increases in pension costs. The House concurred in Senate amendments to HB2497, sending the legislation to Gov. Edward G. Rendell for his signature.
“It doesn’t go quite as far as a lot of us would have preferred, but it does take some good first steps,” said state Rep. Glen Grell, R-Cumberland, who with a handful of Republican and Democratic members worked on the legislation for more than two years.
