There has been recent media coverage regarding judges taking gifts. Can judges go to political gatherings such as the annual Pennsylvania Society weekend in New York when they are not running for office?

The answer is clear as a bell under Canon 7 of the Code of Judicial Conduct — a judicial officer cannot attend political gatherings or purchase tickets for political functions except when they are a candidate for election.
