When plaintiffs lawyer Jeffrey Stern of Bellaire turned himself in to police on Feb. 1, his wife, Yvonne Stern, was by his side. Jeffrey Stern has been indicted on two counts of solicitation of capital murder – charges that stem from allegations that he attempted to solicit the murder of Yvonne Stern on April 15, 2010, and May 5, 2010. As alleged in the indictments, which were returned by a Harris County grand jury on Jan. 24 but not made public until Feb. 1, Stern unlawfully did “request, command and attempt to induce Michelle Gaiser . . . to engage in specific conduct, namely, the solicitation of another person to commit the murder for remuneration of Yvonne Stern” on those two dates.
Stern’s criminal-defense attorney, Paul Nugent, said on Feb. 1 while standing outside Houston Police Department headquarters that his client is not guilty of the charges. Nugent says Stern is only guilty of a “marital transgression” in the form of an affair with Gaiser. “He sincerely regrets the affair,” Nugent said.
