In 1981, in response to cuts in federal funding for legal services, the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for Action Program was born. Now known as Philadelphia VIP, this program is celebrating its 30th year of providing free legal services to those who would otherwise be unable to afford them.

Over the course of Philadelphia VIP’s existence, more than 10,000 Philadelphia-area attorneys have volunteered their time and legal services to the organization. Their collective pro bono efforts have supported family stability, prevented homelessness, maintained family income and promoted community economic development on behalf of more than 30,000 clients in the region.
