Lawyers for imprisoned former state Sen. Vincent Fumo were rebuffed last week when the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied their request to increase the time for oral argument from 40 minutes to 70 minutes when the case is argued on May 25.

In a tersely worded order, the 3rd Circuit refused to divide the argument into two parts — one devoted to the government’s appeal seeking stiffer prison terms for Fumo and his longtime aide, Ruth Arnao; and another devoted to Fumo’s cross-appeal seeking a new trial.
