A Western Pennsylvania energy company is appealing a $7.8 million verdict — plus delay damages — awarded to two men who were injured when a company staircase they were descending collapsed. The appeal comes after an Allegheny County judge denied Consol Energy Inc.’s motion for post-trial relief.

In May, Judge David N. Wecht denied Consol its motion for post-trial relief in a verdict that was among the state’s top 100 in 2010.
