On a recent spring day, U.S. District Court Judge Cynthia M. Rufe found out that the students visiting her courtroom were shocked to learn that the federal courthouse was open to the public.
There is no better reason than that instance, Rufe said, to motivate her promotion of civics education and legal education so that young people will know that courts are open to them and they can access justice.
