Dealing a significant setback to major media companies, a federal appeals court has upheld rules imposed by the Federal Communications Commission that restrict ownership of multiple media outlets in the same market.
The three-judge panel struck down only one of the FCC’s rules — governing cross-ownership of both a broadcast station and a newspaper — after finding that the FCC had adopted the rule without allowing adequate public comment.
