The state Supreme Court has agreed to hear the claims of two groups of tax collectors in a combined case examining whether a school district can set its own pay rates for elected tax collectors.

In this case, court documents say, the decision of two Bucks County school districts — Pennridge and Central Bucks — to significantly decrease the pay rates of local tax collectors was an open attempt to relieve them of their duties in favor of an outside agency or “lockbox” system with their banks.
